Burbank Restaurant Shooting Ruled A 'Murder-Suicide:' Police

Burbank police said a man entered Frank's Chicago Shrimp House and shot a female employee multiple times before turning the gun on himself.

BURBANK, IL — Burbank police are now investigating what they say is a murder-suicide that happened Thursday evening at a restaurant. A man and woman both died.

Just after 6:30 p.m., a man identified as 21-year-old Devon Williams walked into Frank’s Chicago Shrimp House, 6539 W. 79th St., during the dinner hour. Upon entering the restaurant, police said Williams removed a handgun from his waistband and shot an employee identified as 55-year-old Melissa Hoddenbach multiple times. Williams then turned the gun on himself.

Officers found Hoddenbach and Williams lying on the floor with gunshot wounds. They tried to render aid to Hoddenbach, but she was already deceased. A handgun was recovered at the restaurant. According to Frank's Chicago Shrimp House website, the restaurant appeared to be open for business when the shooting happened.

Williams was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died shortly after. Police did not say if the two knew each other, but called the shooting an “isolated” incident with no danger to the public.

The Cook County Medical Examiner has ruled the shooting as a murder-suicide. Burbank detectives are still investigating. More information will be provided when it becomes available.
