Business Comings & Goings: Marquette Bank Donates iPad to Hope Children’s Hospital

Marquette Bank has donated an iPad and protective case to the Pediatric Rehabilitation Services Department at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital, which will use the iPad to communicate with patients who are unable to speak because of injury or illness.

 “A teenage girl with a brain injury, a 5-year-old child with cerebral palsy and a teenage boy with an injury to his vocal folds are just a few examples of patients we are currently treating who will benefit from this iPad,” Barb Meagher, Pediatric Rehabilitation Coordinator at Hope Children’s Hospital, said in a release. “iPads can be used for many patients of all ages and they are especially motivating during speech therapy with thousands of applications for communication, articulation and cognition.”

 Marquette Bank also supports Hope Children's Hospital through its annual sponsorship of the Running for Hope Run/Fun Walk (this year on Sunday, June 3) and volunteer projects including serving meals at the Ronald McDonald House in Oak Lawn and hosting holiday activities for children who are patients at the hospital.

 “As a neighborhood bank, we are always looking for innovative ways to help our local community institutions,” Christie Cox, Director of Neighborhood, said in a release. “We are so fortunate to have a children’s hospital offering these specialized services to our local communities and we encourage everyone to support Hope Children's Hospital.”

Children’s Museum Gala is Saturday

Cicero Avenue Construction Projects

The Illinois Department of Transportation has started resurfacing Cicero Avenue from 95^th Street to 127^th Street and from 147^th Street to 175^th Street.

Milling and resurfacing work began Monday and is scheduled to end on Sept. 7. There will be intermittent lane closures in Oak Lawn, Alsip, Midlothian, Oak Forest and Country Club Hills.

Cicero already is reduced to one lane in each direction for bridge work at the Cal-Sag Channel just south of 127^th Street. That project is expected to last through August.

There will be additional lane closures when work begins later this spring on the CSX Railroad overpass just south of 115^th Street. That project is expected to last until mid-July.

IDOT reminds motorists to anticipate delays and allow extra time for trips through these areas.

Frank Thomas at Durbin’s

Former White Sox slugger Frank Thomas will be visiting Durbin’s locations this week and the Tinley Park Beer and Vine Fest on Saturday to promote his Big Hurt Beer.

Thomas, who was known as the Big Hurt while a player, will be at the Palos Hills Durbin’s at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the Evergreen Park Durbin’s at 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Burbank location at 8 p.m. Friday and the Frankfort Durbin’s at 7 p.m. Saturday. He’ll be at the Beer and Vine Fest from 2-4 p.m.

Health & Wellness Fair is Thursday

More than two dozen health and wellness related businesses and organizations will have booths at this year’s Health & Wellness Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday at the Senior Center, 5330 W. 95^th St. The fair is free and open to all. Café to Host Business After Hours

Corner Bakery Café, 9261 S. Cicero Ave., is hosting a Business After Hours for the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce from 5-7 p.m. tonight. The restaurant will be showing off some of its catering items including sandwiches, salads, pasta and sweets.

Bank to Host ID Theft Seminar

Standard Bank and Trust will host a free community seminar to protect residents against identity theft from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, at the Evergreen Park location at 2400 W. 95^th St. RSVP to Julie Partacz at 708-499-2000 Ext. 60110.

The same branch is holding a free neighborhood shredding event on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to noon. Residents can bring four banker boxes of items per household to be shredded.
