Camaro Driver Sought For Firing Gun On Cicero Avenue: Cops
Witnesses claim driver got out of Camaro in traffic and started firing at another car, police said.
OAK LAWN, IL — A man driving a black Camaro was seen by witnesses shooting at another car Saturday evening, according to an Oak Lawn police report. The investigation is ongoing.
Around 7:30 p.m. May 9, an Oak Lawn police officer on patrol heard what he believed to be gunshots in the area of 103rd Street and Cicero Avenue. Witnesses told the officer they saw someone shooting a black handgun from the Camaro, then speeding away southbound on Cicero.
Other police officers surrounded the area. Another officer spotted the Camaro in the 4000 block of West 111th Street and was able to get a bead on the license plate, reports said. The Camaro had turned southbound on Pulaski Road continuing at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue the car. The officer could not see the driver because the car windows were heavily tinted, reports said. Alsip police were notified that the car was traveling over the Pulaski Road bridge at 123rd Street.

Police talked to a witness who was in the parking lot at Arena Lanes. The witness did not see the shooting but told police he or she heard it and turned around to see a man get into the driver's seat of the Cameo and take off. Prior to hearing the gunfire, the witness said the Camaro had been stopped in traffic.
Another witness flagged down police on Cicero Avenue. That witness claimed to have seen the whole shooting. According to the report, the witness had been in the 4700 block of West 103rd Street when shots rang out. The witness saw an African American man in his early 20s with long dreadlocks and wearing dark clothing exit the driver's seat of the Camaro, holding a black semiautomatic handgun with an extended magazine, police said. The man allegedly began firing at a white Hyundai, which took off at a high rate of speed southbound down Cicero.

A third witness was at home when the shooting began and came out to see what happened, police said. That witness also saw the black Camaro speeding away.
Officers shut down the Cicero Avenue between 99th and 103rd streets. Shell casings were found in the roadway in the 10200 block of South Cicero Avenue. While searching the area, officers discovered that a sign post on the east side of the Huntington Bank building appeared to have been struck by gunfire. The Marquette Bank building was also hit by gunfire.
