Car Crashes Into Hair Salon In Oak Lawn, Sets Business On Fire: OLFD
The car's engine was on fire when the driver lost control and crashed into Scissor Hands Salon, Oak Lawn fire chief says.
OAK LAWN, IL — A car crashed into a popular Oak Lawn hair salon early Saturday evening, causing heavy damage. No injuries were reported.
Just after 6:45 p.m., firefighters received a call about a Nissan Altima that had driven through Scissor Hands, 10822 S. Cicero Ave., said Chief Zack Riddle, of the Oak Lawn Fire Department.
Riddle said the car was having mechanical problems and that the engine was on fire while driving southbound on Cicero Avenue. When the driver pulled the car into the lot of the shopping center on the west side of 108th Street and Cicero Avenue, the fire became larger. The driver lost control of the vehicle and as it continued moving forward, it crashed all the way into the hair salon.

When the vehicle was inside the building, it set the inside of the hair salon on fire. Once on the scene, firefighters were able to contain the blaze and extinguish it before the fire spread to other businesses. Adjacent businesses sustained minor smoke damage.
The newly opened Cookies and Dreams, 10800 S. Cicero, brought cookies to the first responders.
