Car Stolen at Bridgeview Gas Station with 1-Year-Old Child Inside: COPS

Thieves stole vehicle that was left running and unlocked while mother was inside station, Bridgeview Police said.

BRIDGEVIEW , IL -- Bridgeview police are searching for two suspects who stole a woman’s vehicle with her 1-year-old child inside it late Friday evening while she was getting gas.

Police said the woman had pulled up to the Shell station at 8700 S. Harlem Ave. around 10:22 p.m. Friday. The woman had left her car running while she was pumping gas when another driver pulled up next to her vehicle.

The driver got of out the car, a dark blue Volkswagen Passat, and jumped into the woman’s vehicle when she was inside the station. The woman’s vehicle was operated by a keyless auto remote entry and had the key FOB with her. The car was reportedly left unlocked and running when it was stolen, police said.

The suspects drove away in the car with the child still inside the vehicle. The car was later abandoned in Chicago near 86th Street and Kilpatrick Avenue. The child was found uninjured inside the car and is in good health.

There was no violence reported or injuries,” Bridgeview Police Department spokesman Ray Hanania said in an email. “The baby was returned to its mother.”

Police said the suspects’ vehicle had been reported stolen on Feb. 2 in Chicago. The car had dealer license plates.
