Chicago Ridge cops interviewing driver. Witnesses say cyclist was not moving after being hit, CBS 2 Chicago reports.

CHICAGO RIDGE, IL -- Chicago Ridge police were unsurprisingly not disclosing information about an accident that occurred late Saturday evening when a vehicle struck a bicyclist, news reports said.

The accident happened near 111th Street and Mayfield Avenue around 11 p.m. Saturday. CBS 2 Chicago reported that a car stuck a man riding a bicycle, critically injuring him.

The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A witness closing up a pizza restaurant told CBS 2 that the man appeared to have landed several feet away from his bike. The man appeared to be unconscious.

“The bike was completely destroyed,” Matthew Ceska said. “The guy was laying on the ground and then, all of a sudden, ambulances and everything put him on a stretcher, neck brace, he wasn’t moving. They put him in an ambulance and took him away.”

Chicago Ridge police were reportedly interviewing the driver. Residents said they are surprised there haven’t been more accidents on the busy stretch of road.
