Carpenters Union Accepting Apprenticeship Applications
Applications are now being accepted for carpenter apprenticeships from March 4 to April 4. Women and military veterans encouraged to apply.
CHICAGO, IL -- The Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Apprenticeship and Training Program in conjunction for Chicago Women in Trades will begin accepting applications Monday, March 4, for future general construction and pre-apprenticeship training classes. Women and military veterans are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates must apply in person at the carpenters' apprenticeship office located at 1256 Estes Ave., Elk Grove Village, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline to apply is April 4, 2019. Candidates must present the following at the time of filing an application:
- Letter of recommendation on local union letterhead signed by a union officer;
- Must be a minimum of 17 years old and present an Illinois driver’s license or state ID;
- Bring a copy of a high school diploma or high school transcripts (must have official school seal, eight credits minimum) or GED certificate.
- Social Security card or receipt showing that a duplicate card has been applied for;
- A $25 non-refundable application processing fee (money orders or cashiers check only). Cash will not be accepted.
- VETERANS ONLY: Form DD214 in addition to the documents aboce.
The Carpenters Union apprentice training program combines hands-on classroom education by qualified instructors with on-the-job training. This "earn while you learn" approach gives apprenticeships the opportunity to earn a living while developing highly marketable skills for life. Specialized carpenter training programs include:

Union journeyman carpenters earn regular hourly wages between $25.24 to $45.55 depending on years’ experience, not including overtime.
