Green has been fighting a life-limiting illness robbing his ability to live on his own. To boost his spirits, Southpoint nurses with sports connections because of their charity work, reached out directly to Matt Forte, asking if he could drop by to see Green.

The morning of Forte’s visit, Southpoint staff encouraged Green to don his BEARS gear without telling him why, in case there was a last-minute change of plans and Forte wouldn’t be able to stop by after all. When the call came in that Forte was on his way, Green was wheeled by the front door and told to wait for a very special visitor.

Immediately recognizing Forte as he walked through the doors, Green’s face lit up in complete surprise.

“This is amazing,” Green said excitedly grinning from ear-to-ear. “I can’t believe you’re here just to see me.”

Forte clasped Green’s hands and said, “It’s the least I can do for a lifelong BEARS fan! It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

After Forte departed, Green, still beaming said, it was the best surprise of his life, as the nurses behind his back high-fived. ###
