Chicago Ridge Apartment Fire Displaces 15 People

The blaze became a two-alarm fire due to winter weather and a fire hydrant that froze in the cold.

A fire Monday night in a Chicago Ridge apartment complex led to the evacuation and displacement of about 15 people, according to news reports.

Emergency personnel arrived around 10:30 p.m. at the complex in the 9800 block of Sayre Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune, and they found fire burning on the building’s second floor.

The blaze became a two-alarm fire due to the winter weather and a fire hydrant that froze in the cold, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Six apartment units were damaged and uninhabitable, and American Red Cross helped about 15 people who had been displaced, according to the Sun-Times. No one was injured in the fire.
