Chicago Teens Questioned in Dunkin Donuts Robbery

Chicago Ridge cops say investigation is ongoing and charges may be pending.

A single bullet hole in the ceiling of a doughnut shop marks the spot where an alleged robber is believed to have fired a shot during an armed robbery on Tuesday afternoon.

Chicago Ridge police are holding two Chicago teens, ages 18 and 19, who were apprehended in Oak Lawn after robbing the Dunkin Donuts at 6408 W. 95th St., according to a police news release.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Officers were called to restaurant for an armed robbery around 3:06 p.m. As officers were en route, they received a second radio dispatch of shots fired inside the restaurant and the robber fleeing from from the building, police said.

The suspect was seen getting into a maroon or black Pontiac. Witnesses observed the car fleeing eastbound on 94th Street and Ridgeland Avenue. Surrounding police departments were advised of the robbery, the direction of travel and the vehicle’s description.

Witnesses inside the doughnut shop described the suspect as an African-American male wearing a black hoodie and displaying a weapon. During the robbery the suspect is alleged to have fired one shot inside the Dunkin Donuts.

According to Chicago Ridge police, the robber emptied two cash registers and fled out of the doughnut shop to the car where the driver was waiting. The car took off on 94th Street at Ridgeland Avenue.

Moments later, around 3:16 p.m., Oak Lawn police located the suspected vehicle at 87th Street and Central Avenue. Police said a traffic stop was initiated and witnesses positively identified both men inside the car as the two involved in the robbery.

An undisclosed amount of cash and a weapon were found inside the car, police said.

Oak Lawn police also reported they are speaking to the suspects regarding the robbery of a man on a cell phone at an Oak Lawn gas station on Dec. 29.

About an hour before the Chicago Ridge robbery, a Dunkin Donuts was robbed in Posen around 2 p.m. Tuesday. It’s not clear whether both cases are related.
