Chicago Woman Crashes Car on Christ Hospital ER Ramp: Cops

Woman told police, "I was just parking," cops say.

A Chicago woman is charged with reckless driving and reckless conduct after crashing on the ramp to the emergency room at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn police said.

Officers went to the hospital at 4440 W. 95th Street around 1:50 a.m. April 11 to assist security in “keeping the peace after the ER received a gunshot victim,” the report said.

While in the lower level of the ER, the officer observed a vehicle drop off three passengers and then drive back down the exit ramp.

According to the report, the officer heard a loud scraping noise consistent with a vehicle hitting a guardrail. As he walked over to see what was hit, the car began to proceed forward “showing a willful disregard for the safety of public and private property.”

Police said the vehicle began to back up at a high rate of speed crashing squarely into the east wall of the emergency room exit.

There were approximately ten people located in the lower level of the emergency room parking area and five waiting at the top of the ramp.

The officer approached the driver, later identified as Latoya Johnson, 22, of Chicago, and ordered her out of the car, reports said.

She was placed under arrest for reckless driving. Johnson allegedly told police, “I’m just parking.”

Johnson was escorted up the ER ramp and placed in a patrol car, where she was transported to the Oak Lawn police station. She was charged with improper backing, reckless driving and reckless conduct.
