College Students Arrested With 188 Grams of Cannabis, $1,328 Cash: Prosecutors

Students were found in Bridgeview garage after callers reported suspicious drug activity, prosecutors said.

A pair of college students were arrested with a large quantity of cannabis after residents reported suspicious drug activity in a garage, prosecutors said.’

Amir Almasri and Abdullah Omran, both 19, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on charges of possession of cannabis over 30 grams, and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

According to the charges, Bridgeview police were called to the garage area behind a Bridgeview condominium around 7:18 p.m. Oct. 13.

When they arrived Almasri and Omran were located inside the garage where officers said they detected an odor burnt cannabis.

Prosecutors alleged that Almasri was found with two large plastic bags containing 40 grams of cannabis and $328. Omran had 148 grams of cannabis packaged in various sized plastic bags and $1,000.

Both men were represented by private attorneys, who stated that Almasri and Omran were students at Moraine Valley Community College and lived with their families.

“That’s a lot of dope there,” Judge Felice said.

Almasri and Omran were $5,000 I-bonds and placed on electronic home monitoring, so they could continue working and going to school. They were also ordered to submit to random drug testing.
