Teen Charged In Crash That Killed Cook County Sheriff's Officer
A 16-year-old boy is charged in a crash that killed an off-duty Cook County Sheriff's officer early Saturday morning in Chicago Ridge.

CHICAGO RIDGE, IL -- A teen driver has been charged in a crash that killed a Cook County Sheriff’s Police officer in Chicago Ridge. Officer James Koch, 51, was off-duty and driving to his home in Chicago Ridge when the crash occurred a few minutes past midnight on Saturday. Chicago Ridge police said the 16-year-old male driver was apparently driving without a license.
Police are not releasing the teen’s name because he is a minor. The teen driver is being charged with reckless homicide, operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, driving in the wrong lane and driving too fast for conditions.
At 12:04 a.m. Saturday, Chicago Ridge police responded to a crash in the 10100 block of Virginia Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two heavily damaged vehicles, including 2015 Nissan and 2002 Chevrolet. Police said that the teen driver had crashed into the Chevy.
