Cop Attacked By Wedding Guests in Wild Brawl: Prosecutor

Three brothers charged with assaulting Bridgeview cop in front of Paradise Elegant Banquets.

Bridgeview, IL — Wedding guests ganged up on a police officer sent to disperse a large group of people arguing outside a Bridgeview banquet hall, resulting in the arrests of three brothers, prosecutors said.

Peter, Lukas and Marek Nebus each were charged with aggravated battery against a peace officer. The brothers appeared before Cook County Judge Steven Rosenblum still in their dress clothes from early Sunday morning.

According to the allegations, a Bridgeview police officer responded around 12:30 a.m. June 26 to a report of people fighting in front of Paradise Elegant Banquets, 9220 S. Harlem Ave. When the officer arrived, he encountered a large group of people in a heated argument.

Peter Nebus allegedly approached the officer, who was still getting beat up by the crowd. The officer pushed Peter back, but the man continued his approach, the prosecutor said. The officer withdrew his Taser, and after repeated warnings, he deployed it, hitting Peter.

After the officer deployed his Taser, Marek Nebus approached the officer from behind and grabbed him by the neck, and the officer managed to free himself and punched Marek, the prosecutor said.

After the officer freed himself, Lukas Nebus is said to have grabbed the officer's arm. When Lukas allegedly ignored commands to stand back, the officer shot Lukus with the Taser.

As the officer radioed for help, he told the crowd to stand back. A witness to the incident corroborated the officer’s statements, the prosecutor said.

The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was treated for injuries to his neck, right hand, left arm and bruising throughout his body, the prosecutor said.
