Cops Find Live Ammo, Codeine During Traffic Stop

Man had previous felony conviction, charged with unlawful possession of weapons or ammunition by a felon, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said that live ammunition and codeine were both found in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Oak Lawn.

Police pulled Gabriel Perez, 33, over at 110th Street and Cicero Avenue on Oct. 14, where officers detected a smell of burnt cannabis in Perez’s vehicle, according to the charges.

During a pat down, officers said they found three live. .57 cartridges in Perez’s pocket.

A further search revealed several handgun magazines in Perez’s car, but no gun. They also found codeine in Perez’s possession.

Perez has a previous felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance. There was no mention of cannabis being found in court.

Bail was set at $30,000. Perez is due back in court on Nov. 5 in Bridgeview.
