Coronavirus In The South Suburbs: 4 Suspected Nursing Home Deaths

Four nursing home residents in Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, Palos Park and Bridgeview died of coronavirus. Plus updated cases for south suburbs.

COOK COUNTY, IL — In Illinois’s deadliest week yet since the coronavirus outbreak began, 82 deaths were reported Wednesday at Gov. JB Pritzker’s daily press conference, bringing the state’s death toll to 462, with 15,078 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In Cook County, the medical examiner confirmed 32 people died of coronavirus on Wednesday, which account for 323 of Illinois’ total death count. Nine patients died of the virus this week at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, followed by Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, and one patient at OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Evergreen Park.

The Cook County Department of Public Health confirmed 3,969 cases of COVID-19 and 129 deaths in suburban Cook County. Coronavirus has also spread to 63 communal settings, such as long term care facilities, nursing homes and jails, which are reporting one or more confirmed cases.

Among the suspected area nursing home fatalities, a 92-year-old woman died April 6 of a COVID-19 infection at Advocate Christ. Her address matched Bridgeview Health Care Center, 8100 S. Harlem Ave., where a 74-year-old man succumbed to coronavirus last month, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

Coronavirus also claimed the life of a 72-year-old man whose address matched Manor Care Health Services West, 6300 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn., who died April 6.

In addition, the deaths of a 68-year-old woman whose address matched Lexington Health Care Center of Chicago Ridge, and a 70-year-old man with the same address as Sunrise of Palos Park, 12828 S. LaGrange Road, were reported by the medical examiner.

The data does NOT include patients who recovered at home after showing COVID-19 symptoms, but weren't tested. Other possible cases are being investigated by health officials.
