D123 Top Fundraising School in Illinois for MAW

Over the last 10 years, Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School has raised over $400,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Illinois. Through this effort, we have been able to grant 75 wishes to local children who have life-threatening illnesses.

This project has been a beneficial experience for our students. They realize that it is important to give of oneself to help others. They have also experienced first-hand a community that works together to achieve a goal.

The kick-off campaign this year was a Volleyball Charity Tournament sponsored in conjunction with the Oak Lawn Police and Fire Departments. Student and community participation netted over $3,700 – a great beginning to our fund-raising. The District 123 staff members also participated in the Jeans For Wishes campaign which helped to raise over $4,200. The combined effort and support of community, parents, administrators, teachers, and students made this project so successful.

“Our goal, our hope, is that our students realize that it is better to give than to receive…”
