D218 Foundation to host 10th annual Arts Extravaganza

May 4 in the new PAC at Richards

Jazz bands, show choirs, speech teams, and drama casts will highlight the 10th annual Arts Extravaganza on Saturday, May 4.

The Friends of Community High School District 218 Education Foundation will host Arts Extravaganza at Richards High School, 10601 S. Central Avenue in Oak Lawn. The new Performing Arts Center at Richards will serve as the host venue.

Known as Star Wars Day to fans of the movies (May the Fourth Be With You), the logo and menu this year feature a theme. The menu features Han Burgers, Hoth Dogs, Jabba the Hummus, Chewbacca Bites, Death Star Donuts and more.

Eisenhower High School art student Mariah Pabon won the contest to design the logo.

Both a fund raiser and a celebration of student talents in drama, speech, music, visual and the culinary arts, the event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Students from Eisenhower, Richards and Shepard high schools will share the spotlight in a wide variety of arts.

Tickets are $10 for adults 18 to 59 and $5 for students and senior citizens age 60 and older. The ticket price includes hors d’oeuvres prepared by culinary arts students. Tickets are available at the door.

The Arts Extravaganza also will feature a gallery exhibiting hundreds of art pieces by students from District 218 schools.
