OAK LAWN, IL — For senior Steven Hebel, defense may as well be his middle name. And this season, he lived up to that expectation. He helped lead the Oak Lawn Community High School boys soccer team to South Suburban Conference shutout wins over Eisenhower and Lemont and to a shutout draw against a very talented Reavis team. He also played a major role in the Spartans’ six-game unbeaten streak this year.

“Steven captained our defense,” said head coach Nate Joiner. “Statistically, he leads the team with three-goal line clearances in September, as well as in total minutes played. He was also the bedrock of the September games, in which we went on a six-game unbeaten streak.”

Hebel, a three-sport athlete, defended the goal with passion and helped push the Spartans toward the Illinois High School Association Regional competition.
