Distance Runner Leo Chavez Leads OLCHS Boys Track To Early Success
Sophomore Leo Chavez brings laser sharp focus to distance events for Oak Lawn Community College boys track.

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School sophomore Leo Chavez has laser-sharp focus. Running in distance events such as the 800-meter run, the 1,600, and the 3,200, that focus helps him to be successful. Ranking as one of the distance runners in the South Suburban Conference, Chavez is using that focus to lead the Spartan track team to early success.
He boasts of personal best times of 11:08.8 in the 3,200, 5:16 in the 1,600, and 2:27 in the 800. Even though he leads other runners around the track, he also takes time to be a leader with his teammates, in the locker room and in the classroom.
“Leo is a captain and has been having an excellent season, being a major contributor to the team’s success this year,” said head coach John Jensen. “Leo has contributed to the team in more than just successful finishes at big meets by being a leader.
