Domino's Pizza Workers Honored For Saving Boy From Burning Trailer
"Certainly without Nasser and Sara's willingness to get involved ... this event could have had an even more tragic outcome," OLFD chief said

OAK LAWN, IL — Two Domino’s Pizza workers were recognized by the Oak Lawn Fire Department for their bravery in helping a father save his 8-year-old son from a burning trailer last month.
Around 1 a.m. Oct. 7, Nasereddin Khanfer and Sara Jones were finishing up their shift at Domino’s Pizza, 9022 S. Cicero, when they noticed a mobile home on fire across the street in the Airway Mobile Home Community.
Khanfer and Jones ran across Cicero Avenue where they found a frantic father trying to access the burning trailer.

“Through a 12-year-old serving as an interpreter, Naser and Sara learned that an 8-year-old boy was still inside the trailer,” OLFD Chief Mike McMillan told village board members during Tuesday’s meeting.
The fire chief said Khanfer and Jones assisted the father in breaking out a window and moving some debris out of the way. They were able to pull the boy out the window to safety just before the mobile home burst into flames.

The boy spent a day at Advocate Christ Medical Center for observation. He was treated for some minor burns and smoke inhalation before being released.
“I’ve seen him twice since then and he’s doing great,” McMillan said.
Khanfer and Jones were both recognized with commemorative plaques summarizing their actions and life saving medals to show the Oak Lawn Fire Department’s appreciation.
“Certainly without Nasser and Sara’s willingness to get involved and help someone in need, this event could have had an even more tragic outcome,” McMillan said.
