Driver Overdosing On Heroin Crashes Into Light Pole: Cops
Oak Lawn police said driver in single-vehicle crash began overdosing in the back seat of the patrol car.

OAK LAWN, IL — An Orland Park man and his passenger were overdosing on heroin when he crashed into a light pole in Oak Lawn, prosecutors said. Michael Babich, 38, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. Babich also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police responded to a report of a single-car crash at 95th Street and Nashville on Dec. 10. When they arrived, they found the passenger of a car that crashed into a light pole overdosing on the ground. The passenger was given Narcan used to treat narcotic overdoses in emergency situations. Officers said they observed the driver, later identified as Babich, rolling what turned out be a baggie of methadone in his hand. Babich was taken into custody. While sitting in the back of the patrol car, the prosecutor said that Babich started overdosing and was given Narcan.
Babich was released on a $10,000 I-bond. He’s due back in court Jan. 7 in Bridgeview.
