Drunk Driver Caught at 2 a.m. With 12-Year-Old Son and 13-Year-Old-Nephew In Car: Cops

Oak Lawn police said man blew a .144 after he was caught driving at 2 a.m. with kids in his car.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A Bolingbrook man pulled over for speeding with his young son and nephew is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said. The man reportedly had a blood alcohol content of .144.

Shalamon Baskin, 43, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on charges of aggravated DUI, child endangerment, speeding, operating an uninsured vehicle and driving on a suspended or revoked license.

Baskin was stopped for suspicion of speeding by Oak Lawn police around 2:04 a.m. June 14 in the 4700 block of West 86th Street. Officers said Baskin had bloodshot, glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol. He also had his 12-year-old son and 13-year-old nephew in the car. He failed field sobriety tests and blew a .144, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender argued that Baskin did not have any violent crime in his background.

“There was no driving and no alcohol,” Judge Felice said. “He knew that.”

Bail was set at $100,000. The judge also ordered weekly random drug testing, with zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs. Baskin is due back in court June 29 in Bridgeview.
