DUI Labor Day Arrests Decrease in Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn police announce results of 2017 Labor Day DUI enforcement campaign.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Labor Day DUI arrests went down compared to 2016. The Oak Lawn Police Department released results of its “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Labor Day impaired driving enforcement campaign. The village ramped up its enforcement efforts, adding 12 local checkpoints and 11 additional saturation patrols.

The enforcement campaign was in effect from Aug. 21 through the early morning hours of Sept. 5. Oak Lawn police made 12 DUI arrests during the period, compared to 14 DUI arrests in 2016. In addition, police issued 260 seat belt citations and 285 citations for various other traffic violations.

“People die every day at the hands of impaired drivers, and our law enforcement officers were out in full force, arresting drivers who were under the influence,” said Sgt. M. Acke, OLPD traffic unit supervisor. “It is everyone’s responsibility to refrain from drinking and driving.”
