DUI Patrols Out In Force Over Memorial Day Weekend

Oak Lawn police plan high-visibility alcohol crackdown and seat belt enforcement throughout village through May 30.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Holiday boozers take warn: the Oak Lawn Police Department will be out in force through May 30 in an effort to curb impaired and distracted driving during Memorial Day Weekend. The statewide “Drive Sober, Get Pulled Over” crackdown will include high-visibility alcohol and seat belt enforcement throughout Oak Lawn.

During the crackdown, Oak Lawn officers will be aggressively looking for drunk drivers during the crackdown. Front and back seat seat belt violators will also be ticketed. Expect to see police making lots of stops during the holiday weekend in Oak Lawn and other nearby communities.

“The holiday season is considered one of the most dangerous periods for drunk driving. We are going to keep our roads safe for the community and travelers heading to visit friends and family,” said Sgt. Acke. “This holiday, we will show zero tolerance for drunk drivers on the road. If you choose to drive drunk, we will see you, we will stop you and we will arrest you.”

Drunk drivers face jail time, loss of their driver licenses, and steep financial consequences such as higher insurance rates, attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work, and the potential loss of a job. Party hosts can also face civil action if an overserved guest leaves their home and gets into an accident.
