Eisenhower students volunteer at Feed My Starving Children

A beautiful day.

Special education staff members from Eisenhower High School recently brought a group of their students to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children.

With several locations around Chicago, FMSC hosts volunteers that hand pack scientifically formulated meals for undernourished children. FMSC serves the needy in more than 60 nations.

“Students in our Foundations program participate in an academic based curriculum while providing students with access to opportunities that foster functional communication and daily living skill sets through community access and vocational training,” said teacher Tricia McCullough.

Apart from the experience of volunteering for such a benevolent organization, working at Feed My Starting Children meshed with the class goals.

“Practicing life skills within diverse functional settings and community service allows our students the opportunity to transfer a variety of skill sets from the classroom into the community while helping others.

“Watching our students communicating with their team, setting and achieving goals and having fun dancing to music while working together to help others is truly humbling and a great reflection of what this time of year is all about,” she said.

Teacher Janna Ferriter, paraprofessionals Alexandra Padilla and Magali Esparza, and job coach Tommy Horton also volunteered.
