Elderly Woman Injured In Apartment Building Fire
Oak Lawn firefighters quickly struck a fire in an apartment building that injured an elderly resident.
OAK LAWN, IL -- Firefighters saved an Oak Lawn apartment building from being further engulfed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. An elderly resident was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center with minor smoke inhalation.
A call was received at 1:37 p.m. for a report of smoke showing through the roof at the Georgetown Condos, 6135 W. 94th St. Firefighters discovered a fire in the attic space above a third floor apartment at the southwest corner of the building. The second and third floors of the building were thick with smoke, fire officials said.
Fire crews searched and evacuated residents from the apartments. Two hose lines were pulled to the third floor to extinguish the fire. An elderly woman who lived in the building was brought to Christ Medical Center where she was treated and released for minor smoke inhalation. No firefighters were injured. The Red Cross was called to assist any displaced residents.

Fire crews remained on the scene until 4 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“The crews did an outstanding job! The quick response time and the speed at which they attacked the fire saved the building,” said Chief Mike Mavrogeorge, of the Oak Lawn Fire Department.
