Enter Your Spooky House In Oak Lawn's Halloween Decorating Contest

OAK LAWN, IL — Is your front yard filled with animatronic monsters, skeletons, fog machines and corn husks? The Village of Oak Lawn is thrilled to announce that it is once again teaming up with Midnight Terror Haunted House, 5520 W. 111th St., Oak Lawn, to host the 2024 Halloween Haunted House Decorating Contest.

The deadline to register for the contest is noon Wednesday, Oct. 23. Register online at Oak Lawn Special Events and fill out the application. It’s free.

After you’ve finished decorating, let Oak Lawn Patch know so we can add you to the 2024 tour o’ scary yards list (send pictures and address) or if you’ve already sent your info, email lorraine.swanson@patch.com Patch, so we can add a note to the list.

Last year’s inaugural contest was a ghoulish success. The village is hoping this year’s event is spookier than last year by attracting more entrants. All residents of Oak Lawn are encouraged to show their eerie spirit by entering their house in the 2024 edition. So dust off the skeletons, scatter the cobwebs and start decorating.

Contest Details:

1. Registration: Click here to register for the contest. The registration deadline is Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Noon.
2. Judging: Our panel of Halloween devotees from the Arts & Events Commission along with the staff from Midnight Terror will evaluate the registered decorated houses.
3. Prizes and Announcement: Prizes will be awarded to the top three houses. The winners will be announced on our website and social media platforms on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. The prizes will be presented to the winners at the November 12, 2024, Village Board of Trustees meeting.
4. Safety Guidelines: While we encourage creativity, we also prioritize safety. Please ensure that your decorations do not obstruct sidewalks, driveways, or traffic in any way. Keep electrical cords and decorations secure to prevent accidents.
