Ex-Husband Charged In April Shooting Death Of Oak Lawn Woman

OAK LAWN, IL—A Missouri man has been charged in the April slaying of a 76-year-old Oak Lawn woman. Charles Buss, 81, the woman’s ex-husband, is facing a first-degree murder charge.

During the early afternoon hours on April 5, Oak Lawn police were dispatched to a home in the 9400 block of South 53rd Court to conduct a well-being check. A caretaker had found the resident, Maryanne Buss-Kincaid, unresponsive inside the house and called 911.

Upon arrival, officers determined that Buss-Kincaid was deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The home was secured, and evidence was collected.

Early in the investigation, detectives identified Charles Buss, an 81-year-old Missouri resident and the woman’s former husband, as a person of interest. Detectives learned that Buss had been in Oak Lawn around the time of the slaying and had later returned to Missouri, police said.

On June 16, police obtained an arrest warrant for Charles Buss for first-degree murder.

A month later, on July 16, the U.S. Marshals Service took Buss into custody in Stone County, Missouri. He was subsequently extradited to Illinois.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a charge of first-degree murder on Thursday.

Buss is due in court for a detention hearing Friday afternoon at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
