Family Prepared To Post $100,000 Bond for Release of Alleged Dog Thrower: COURT
An Oak Lawn man charged with animal cruelty who is being held on an unrelated probation violation is due in court for a bond review June 29.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A bond review for an Oak Lawn man charged with two counts of animal cruelty is set for June 29 at the Bridgeview Courthouse. Edward Hanania, 23, is currently being held on a no-bond warrant for violating probation on an unrelated drug case.
The Oak Lawn man is accused of tossing two poodles off the fifth floor of a parking garage on Advocate Christ Medical Center’s Oak Lawn campus last month. One of the dogs died, but the other survived. At Hanania’s arraignment on June 19, extra security was added when approximately 20 animal rights advocates crowded into Cook County Judge Kerry Kennedy’s courtroom.
“We’re animal lovers, we’re so dangerous,” mocked one of the protestors.

Hanania has switched attorneys, hiring Terrence LeFevour, an experienced criminal attorney and the son of convicted Operations Greylord Judge Richard LeFevour. Hanania’s bail on the animal cruelty charges was set at $350,000, with 10 percent or $35,000 to apply. Other special conditions of bond were added, including no contact with the poodles’ owner while his case is pending. Hanania was also ordered to surrender any companion animals in his possession to Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge.
Hanania was on probation at the time of alleged dog tossing after he pleaded guilty to selling heroin and cocaine near an Oak Lawn park and school in June 2016. He is being held on a no-bond warrant. A motion filed by LeFevour indicates that Hanania’s family is prepared to put up $100,000 bond on both cases should the court “see fit to reduce bond on both matters,” according to court records.

In addition to other special conditions, the motion indicates that Hanania has agreed to a curfew and monitoring if released. Hanania cannot be released on bond until the alleged probation violation is resolved.
