Pokemon Battles, Free Comics, Cosplay Contests & More On Tap At Oak Lawn Library Fan Fest

OAK LAWN, IL—Pop culture fans will unite at the tenth annual Oak Lawn Public Library this Saturday, May 9. The free all-ages celebration of pop culture will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library at 9427 S. Raymond Ave.

Start your adventure at the welcome table in the library's lobby to receive a gift while supplies last. The event’s Exhibit Hall featuring local artists, vendors, creators, and collectors opens at 10 a.m. in the library's lower level.

Dale Obrochta will perform the Art of Inflation, a balloon show for kids and families, from 11 a.m. to noon. Ty Yamamoto from the Japanese Culture Center will teach the art of origami all day. Local artist Justin Castaneda will lead a community art jam from 11 a.m. to noon. Trivia on Tap will run pop culture trivia from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.

Fan Fest features free comic books, life-sized Pokémon battles, cosplay contests judged by local cosplay guests, miniature magnet painting, fandom karaoke and flowerpot painting. There will be video games, including Smash Bros. tournaments, board and card games, crafts for kids, costumed volunteers from the 501st Legion, outdoor activities (weather permitting), and prizes. The event will also include an all-day photobooth, scavenger hunt, Nintendo DS meetup, trading card swap, Pokémon GO meetup, and more.
