Fan Fest Returns To Oak Lawn Library Saturday On Free Comic Book Day

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Public Library Fan Fest returns after a two-year pandemic pause this Saturday, May 7, which also happens to be Free Comic Book Day. The FREE, all-ages even will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave.

OLPL Fan Fest features an exhibit hall of local artists, boutiques and vendors, a cosplay competition, photo booth, crafts, chances to win prizes, a live performance by Comedy Clubhouse improv group, Tricky Mickey, and more.

Local talent will host panels throughout the day, featuring Intro to Dungeons and Dragons, Page One to Page Done: How to Create a Comic or Graphic Novel, An Author’s Journey: From Dream to Reality and The South Suburbs Ghostbusters Presents: A Brief History of How We Laugh at Our Fears.

Free Comic Book Day will also return to its traditional “First Saturday In May” event date in 2022. A committee of comic book retailers has selected 46 comic book titles for the industry's most anticipated annual event to take place on Saturday, May 7, at participating comic shops worldwide

This year’s selection of Silver Sponsor comics includes beloved franchises such as The Walking Dead, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Sonic The Hedgehog, Pokémon, Avengers, and Street Fighter. Other notable Silver Sponsor titles are available from Dynamite Entertainment, BOOM! Studios, ABLAZE, Titan Comics, AfterShock Comics and more.

To close out the day, the library will host pop culture trivia after-hours contest at 6 p.m. Register online.
