OAK LAWN, IL — Follow the yellow brick road to Oak Lawn Community High School when the storied drama department hits the boards in “The Wizard of Oz,” based on the classic 1939 film. Share the wonder and delight of live theater in the second musical to be performed in the high school’s new Performing Arts Center. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, with a 2 p.m. matinée on Sunday, Nov. 3.
“The Wizard of Oz” takes audiences on an unforgettable journey down the yellow brick road to the magical land of Oz. Dorothy (played by Grace Pagliaro) and her trusty pup Toto encounter new friends, including Scarecrow (Marco Hernandez), Tin Man (Matthew McDonnell) and Cowardly Lion (played by Tomas Walsh). The quartet faces the Wicked Witch (Alondra Camacho) and unexpected challenges in this musical stage adaptation of the landmark film. The show features a spectacular setting and charming timeless score, including such cherished classics as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Dorothy discovers that there’s truly no place like home.
“Our students in the cast, crew, and pit band have been working diligently since August to put together this production, and they do not plan to disappoint,” said Jeff Pastiak, the play’s director.
