OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police are investigating a shooting that happened at a gas station Thursday evening involving a recently graduated Oak Lawn Community High School football player. The 18-year-old man was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital. At least one person, possibly two people, are in custody, a police source said.

The shooting unfolded around 9:47 p.m. at the Citgo gas station located at 9856 S. Cicero Ave. in Oak Lawn. Witnesses told Patch that the young man and a friend were pumping gas when a fight broke out among four males. The young man was not involved in the fight, the witnesses said.

One of the males allegedly pulled out a gun and fired, wounding the young man in the leg. The wounded 18-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. The alleged shooter reportedly fled the scene on foot. Police arrested him a few blocks away. Crime scene tape roped off the Citgo station and an adjacent mobile phone store. The car where the 18-year-old man was pumping gas was still parked next to the gas pump.
