Four Charged in Trump Rally Melee

CHICAGO, IL -- Chicago Police announced charges against four people arrested in connection to the violent aftermath of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s canceled rally at the UIC Pavilion Friday night.

Thousands cheered at University of Illinois at Chicago when the announcement came that Trump would be canceling his eagerly anticipated “Make America Great Again” rally 30 minutes before he was to take that stage.

  • Sergio Giraldo, 23, of the 1900 block of Argyle, Chicago, is facing two felony counts of aggravated battery against a police officer, one felony count of resisting/obstructing a police officer, and two misdemeanor counts of resisting a peace officer.
  • Sohaan Goss, 21, of the 10600 block of South Langley, Chicago, is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery against a police officer, and five misdemeanor counts of resisting/obstructing a peace officer.
  • Timothy Bradford, 32, of the 100 block of Adam, Chicago, is charged with two misdemeanor counts of resisting/obstructing a police officer.
  • Kathleen Griffin, 45, of Barbeau, MI, is charged with one count of misdemeanor resisting/obstructing a police officer.

All four are scheduled to appear in bond court on Sunday at the Leighton Criminal Court Building at 26th and California.

Goss claims he was “trying to protect someone” when he was arrested after the rally.

Chicago Police say it was Trump’s decision to cancel the rally. Trump has since blamed Bernie Sanders supporters for breaking up the rally and denying his freedom of speech.
