OAK LAWN, IL -- Four men were arrested after they bullied their way into a cell phone store where they stole a large number of new cell phones and stashed an employee into a restroom, prosecutors said. The men are also led police on a chase where they smashed into an innocent bystander’s SUV, prosecutors said.
Quovadis Agnew and Demetris Chaires, both 22, along with Marko Cowens, 26, and Jerry Jackson, 25, appeared before Cook County Judge Donald Havis on charges of robbery and kidnapping. A weapon was not displayed during the robbery, Oak Lawn police said.
According to the prosecutor and Oak Lawn police, Jackson entered the Verizon Store at 9621 S. Cicero Ave., Oak Lawn, around 10:53 a.m.Wednesday, May 24. Jackson approached an employee and said he wanted to buy a phone, pulling out a wad of cash. Soon Jackson’s three accomplices also entered the store. The prosecutor said the employee felt “uncomfortable” so he went to the back room where he intended to call police.
