OAK LAWN, IL — Service on the Metra SWS service line is expected to be restored in time for Thursday’s morning rush after a CSX train derailment effectively knocked out service for a day.

Early Wednesday morning, a CSX freight train derailed near 107th Street and Central Avenue. In addition to the train service being shut down, surrounding streets were closed to traffic as crews worked through the night to repair the tracks.

In the latest service alert, Metra officials said their freight partners have reported tracks will be open before the morning rush with some anticipated delays. Commuters are asked to check for updated messages starting at 5 a.m.

The cause of the train accident is still under investigation.
