Great Chicago Fire Hydrant Makes Way to Ronald McDonald House

It’s been a long journey, but the collection of Great Chicago Fire Hydrants that were created and publicly displayed throughout the city have reached their final destinations.  Last summer’s citywide public art installation featured 101 fire hydrants to symbolically represent each Chicago firehouse. They were designed and created by noted artists, architects, and designers, including one commissioned by Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria.

The first stop for the hydrants’ was downtown Chicago to honor those who have been killed in the line of duty and to recognize those who currently serve the city. In December, several were auctioned off with the proceeds benefitting the 100 Club of Chicago, which provides money to the families of fallen firefighters and police officers. Now the 5-foot-tall fiberglass hydrant sponsored by Lou Malnati’s has made its way to the Ronald McDonald House near Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn.

Last Thursday, representatives from the law offices of McCready, Garcia & Leet, P.C., in Beverly, hand-delivered the hydrant purchased in the auction to the Ronald McDonald House.  The dedication ceremony also included members from the Oak Lawn Fire Department and the Ronald McDonald House. Lou Malnati’s provided meals for the 16 families currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House, as well as dinner for the firehouse as a thank you for their sacrifices and service to the community.
