Guest at Pulmonary Hypertension Fundraiser Pilfers Car Keys, Debit Card: Prosecutor

Prosecutor said guest used key to enter other guest's car, removing cash and debit card from wallet.

Chicago Ridge, IL, May 20, 2016 -- A guest at a fundraiser was arrested after she used a stolen car key to enter another guest’s car where she removed credit cards and cash from a wallet, prosecutors said.

Carmilla Jackson, 34, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on charges of identity theft and burglary to a motor vehicle.

The prosecutor said Jackson and were attending a fundraiser for pulmonary hypertension disease on March 5 at 5860 W. 111th St. in Chicago Ridge.

According to the charges, during the fundraiser, Jackson took the guest’s car key. She went to the garage where she used the key to enter the guest’s car, removing cash and a bank debit card.

Jackson used the debit card to make $93 worth of purchases at Target.

The prosecutor said that Jackson is currently on parole for a 2011 conviction for identify theft from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Jackson has other convictions for identity theft, as well as forgery, altering documents and burglary, according to IDOC records.

In addition to the new charge, there is an active warrant for her arrest out of Lake County, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Jackson is the mother of three children. She is a graduate of Bremen High School in Midlothian.

Judge Felice set bail at $100,000.

Jackson is due back in court June 10 in Bridgeview.
