Homeless Sex Offenders Register in Oak Lawn: Reports

The men are required by state law to register every seven days with police as long as they don't have a permanent address.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Two men convicted of sex crimes have registered as sex offenders in Oak Lawn. Both are homeless. One of them is considered a sex predator, requiring him to remain on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry for the rest of his life.

Robert E. Drake, 35, a convicted sex predator from Wickenburg, AZ, reported to the Oak Lawn police station on July 16. Drake reportedly met with police and told them nothing has changed since his last registration. The Illinois Sex Offender Registry indicted that Drake was convicted of criminal sexual abuse. Drake was 32 and his victim 17 at the time of the offense.

Jerry Lee Bass, 45, told police he’s homeless and moved from Worth to Oak Lawn, to be closer to relatives, however, the police report listed his town of origin as Mt. Vernon, IL. Drake is a child sex offender and has convictions for loitering, registering false information, failure to report annual (twice), and indecent solicitation of a child under 13, according to the state’s sex offender registry. Bass was 19 and his victim 5 at the time of the offense.
