OAK LAWN, IL — Would-be car thieves did not take a holiday off when they attempted to steal several vehicles from driveways in Oak Lawn on Thanksgiving Day. A community alert was blasted out to residents Thursday afternoon.

The first attempted theft happened in the 5800 block of 89th Street, where witnesses described the thieves as “younger male blacks” who tried to enter a Dodge Charger and a Dodge Challenger, police said.

A second attempted theft happened in the 9500 block of Merrimac Avenue, where police said the same crew tried to gain entry into a BMW. The crew scattered when confronted by the homeowners. The alleged thieves fled the scene in a red Dodge Challenger that was used in both incidents.
