On May 22, Hometown School students and their families enjoyed a fun night of reading and writing at Camp Read-a-lot, a Title I Family Reading event.
During Camp Read-a-Lot, participants rotated around to 6 different camp themed reading and writing stations. From 'Summer Reading Under the Stars' where students received a backpack filled with brand new books and a writing journal, to 'Marshmallow Roast BINGO' where students and their families played BINGO with Common Core literacy terms and definitions, using mini marshmallows as counters.
Other stations included Cyber Café, Close Reading, Parent Resource Room and the Ben Carson Reading Room.
At the end of the night students accumulated a bag of camping goodies, books, journals, pencils, knowledge, and excitement over reading and writing.
We are hoping this event will help our students and families understand the importance of reading and writing over the summer!
