Hooded Bandits Rob Cell Phone Store At Gunpoint: Police

Burbank police said the two men boosted the Boost Mobile store making off with cash and cell phones.

BURBANK, IL — A pair of robbers with hoods covering their faces hit a cell phone store in Burbank on Saturday. The two made off with cash and cell phones. No injuries were reported, although one of the robbers displayed a silver handgun, police said.

Around 6:50 p.m., Burbank police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Boost Mobile, 8520 S. Cicero Ave. Witnesses told police that two men wearing heavy winter jackets entered the store. The two split up with one going toward a display stand while the other walked over to the cash register.

Police said one of the men pointed a silver handgun at an employee and ordered him to lay on the floor. The clerk complied was told to open the cash register, or he would get shot. After emptying the cash register of $905 in cash, The robber went through the clerk’s pockets taking his cash and cell phone.

While the pair advanced to the back room grabbing cell phones, police said a customer who was in the store escaped through the front door. Witnesses told police the men exited the store and were last seen running westbound on 85th Place. Officers searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find the men.

The first suspect is described as a male black in his late twenties, around 5-feet-10-inches tall, and weighing between 150 and 180 pounds. He was described as wearing a heavy black winter jacket with the hood covering his face, black jeans and black shoes. Police say he was armed with the silver colored handgun of unknown make.

The second suspect is a male black in his late twenties who is also of average build. He was wearing a heavy blue winter jacket with the hood covering his face, black jeans and black shoes.

Witnesses were unable to get a good look at the suspects’ hair or eye color because their faces were concealed by their jacket hoods, police said.

An undisclosed amount of cash and phones were taken from the store. Detectives are reviewing video obtained from area businesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the Burbank Police Investigative Unit at 708-924-7300.
