Hotel Employee Steals Guest's Glock: Police

Police found the gun wrapped in a beanie in Hilton Oak Lawn employee's jacket, prosecutors said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A hotel employee was arrested after he stole a gun from a guest’s room, prosecutors said. Shawntrae Jackson, 20, of Chicago, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a charge of residential burglary.

Around 3 p.m. Oct. 24, a housekeeper at the Hilton Oak Lawn was cleaning a room when she spotted a gun on the nightstand. Guns are not allowed on the premises, so the housekeeper told her manager. The prosecutor said that Jackson overheard the conversation. He followed the housekeeper into the elevator and allegedly told her not to say anything, because he wanted to steal the gun and sell it.

Oak Lawn police arrived and interviewed Jackson in the break room. Officers searched Jackson’s jacket, where the prosecutor said they found a Glock .42 wrapped in a beanie inside the jacket pocket. The gun was loaded with one round in the chamber. The prosecutor said that Jackson had no prior criminal background.
