OAK LAWN, IL -- Oak Lawn Community High School students started school this week. To prepare for the upcoming school year, Patch has compiled a list of important dates for the 2016-2017 calendar year:

Sept. 5 - Labor Day. no school

Oct. 7 - Teacher Institute, no school
Oct. 10 - Columbus Day, no school

Nov. 11 - Veterans Day, no school
Nov. 24 - Thanksgiving Holiday, no school
Nov. 25 - Thanksgiving Holiday, no school

Dec. 20-22 -- Semester final exams
Dec. 23-31 -- Winter Break (school resumes Jan. 9)

Jan. 1-6 -- No school, winter vacation continues
Jan. 9 - School resumes, half day XHI
Jan. 16 -- Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday (observed), no school

Feb. 17 - ACI
Feb. 20 -- Presidents Day, no school

March 6 - Casimir Pulaski Day, no school
March 27-31 - Spring Break, no school

April 4 - School resumes
April 14 - No school, Good Friday
April 17 - Teacher Institute, no school

May 5 - Teacher Institute, no school
May 10-11 - Senior exams
May 17 - Senior graduation
May 23-25 - Tentative semester final exams
May 25 - Last day of school (if no emergency days)
