Juvenile Charged In Attempted Child Luring, Said It Was A 'Joke:' Oak Lawn Police

Oak Lawn detectives identified the vehicle from plate readers, where a juvenile passenger asked a boy if he wanted candy, police said.

OAK LAWN, IL — A juvenile passenger in a vehicle who called out to a Covington student asking if he wanted some candy has been charged. The juvenile told police it was a joke, Oak Lawn police said.

Police launched an attempted child luring investigation Thursday when an elementary school student reported a suspicious person approached him in a dark-colored car with tinted windows and black rims around 3:30 p.m.

Someone in the vehicle rolled down the window and asked the boy if he wanted candy. The boy said no and continued walking home without incident.

Police were able to identify and locate the vehicle from plate readers. The juvenile passenger told police that it was a joke.

The juvenile has been charged with disorderly conduct.
