Juveniles Fleeing In Stolen Car Crash Into Bank Building: COPS

BURBANK, IL — Juveniles driving a stolen vehicle crashed into a bank building after leading police on a high speed chase early Thursday morning, police said. The youths, identified as Chicago and Harvey residents, were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 1:55 a.m., Burbank police were dispatched to the 8600 block of Massasoit after a citizen reported seeing several people attempting to break into vehicles in Oak Lawn and Burbank. The citizen gave police a description of the occupants and their vehicle, according to a Burbank police news release.

A Burbank officer spotted a vehicle matching the description given by the citizen fleeing westbound on 87th Street from Massasoit, police said. An Oak Lawn officer also saw the vehicle and a brief pursuit occurred. The officers involved learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Harvey.

Officers said the vehicle was driving recklessly and ended their pursuit after losing sight of the allegedly stolen vehicle as it continued barreling westbound on 87th Street.

Moments later, Bridgeview officers responded to a report of a vehicle crashing into the Fifth Third Bank branch in the 7200 block of 87th Street. When police arrived, the occupants of the vehicle, later identified as the three juveniles, were seen running away from the accident scene on foot. Officers searched the area and located the three youths. According to Burbank police, the youths matched the descriptions of the vehicle’s occupants from the earlier call.

The Harvey Police Department was notified that the car had been recovered. Police there had been searching for the vehicle in connection with a car-jacking.

Charges against the juveniles are pending. Burbank, Bridgeview, Oak Lawn and the Harvey Police Departments are working together in the ongoing investigation. No other persons were injured in the Burbank incidents.
