Kal and Sam Mohamed have a deal to develop ten Mooyah Burger restaurants in the south suburbs over the next ten years and have already started construction on a Joliet location. Kal Mohamed, who’s worked in real estate development and management, was looking for a franchise opportunity after operating a chain of cell phone stores.
“I literally flew to Texas to see what Mooyah was all about,” Kal said. “Before I even finished my food I was contacting the corporate office about franchising. It easily could be the best burger in Chicago.”

The Mohamed brothers grew up and still live in Oak Lawn, attending Columbus Manor and Simmons, and attending Richards High School. Mooyah has added 30 jobs to the local economy, with most hires from Oak Lawn and surrounding communities.
Mooyah was founded in 2007 and has about 80 locations mostly in the south, but is expanding aggressively in the midwest.
Meanwhile, the Oak Lawn crew is working on becoming a lean, mean burger machine. Mooyah is planning a grand opening at the end of July.
