Visitation, Mass Set For Audrey U. Schmitz, 90, of Hometown, At Our Lady At St. Germaine

A visitation and mass for Hometown resident Audrey U. Schmitz (Kronberger) will take place Saturday, Feb 28, Our Lady at St. Germaine.

HOMETOWN, IL — One of Hometown’s most luminous souls, Audrey U. Schmitz (Kronberger), died on Feb. 1. Audrey passed peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was 90.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Our Lady at St. Germaine, 9711 S. Kolin Ave., Oak Lawn.

Audrey and her beloved husband, Leroy, lived in Hometown since its earliest days as a planned community for returning World War II veterans. Audrey and Leroy raised 11 children in their duplex. Their daughter, Mari Rohde, shared with Patch that her parents managed to fit their large family into their three-bedroom duplex “with a lot of bunk beds.”

“My mother had 11 children in 11 years,” Mari laughed. “”She was busy.”

Audrey is survived by her husband of 71 years. She was the loving mother of Cathy (Craig) Devendorf, the late Ann, Marty (Don) Dwyer, Edward, Therese Zarnick, Raymond, the late Jonathan (Sandra), Mari (John) Rohde, Paul (Kelley), Caryl (Blake) Wesslowski, and Victoria (Ron) Kuligowski.

She was the cherished grandma of Justin and Trevor; Heather and Sarah; Aarika, Angela and Alivia; Kristina, Lee Michael and Candace; Matthew and Joseph; Kayla and Connor; Jacob and Benjamin; Brittany, Lyn-Z and Douglas, and the proud great-grandmother of 29.

Audrey was the dear sister of Warren (Marguerite) Kronberger, Sue (Jim) Desch, the late George Kronberger, the late Frank Kronberger, and the late Marie (Ed) Triplett.

“Audrey touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in our hearts. She was a wonderful friend and a faithful servant of God,” her family said.
