BRIDGEVIEW, IL — UPDATE —Power has been restored at Industrial Drive and 76th Avenue in Bridgeview, where several high-voltage power line poles were found snapped or severed, police said. ComEd crews worked through the night, restoring power early Wednesday morning.

Streets were closed off for hours at Industrial Drive and 76th Avenue, from 9600 S to 100 South, or in the general area of 76th Avenue between 95th and 103rd streets.

Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha told Patch that the power outage was first reported at 6:39 p.m. Tuesday. When officers and ComEd crews arrived, they discovered three or four wooden poles holding up the power lines were snapped or severed.

“We don’t know exactly what happened to the poles,” Mancha said. “We don’t know what caused it. ComEd is working on it.”

The police chief did not think someone deliberately hacked down the poles, or if the poles gave out due to dry rot from recent high winds.
